Blog Post: Summertime Equals Cool Summer Jobs

Summer is around the corner, and so it the opportunity for you to connect with career opportunities right here in Miami. I know, the tempting summer temperatures may have some of us focus on the beach. Still, this could certainly be a first stop to explore for summer jobs. Here are a few suggestions to consider:

• Fun in the sun - If your calling is the outdoors, explore opportunities with the local government. They have several summer programs - from pool attendants to summer camp, that may take you outdoors while earning a few dollars. Check out the local national parks as well. Sailboards Miami is another place to consider if you enjoy windsurfing or kayaking.
• Cool jobs - I love animals. Therefore, the idea of volunteering at the Sea Aquarium, MetroZoo or even ASPCA are very appealing. The Parks and Recreations Department also have a phenomenal summer program full of concerts, arts & crafts fairs, and of course, are always looking for additional help over the summer. If your "thing" is the media - NBC-6 has a phenomenal internship program as well.
• Office environment - Larger corporations also offer an array of summer employment opportunities and internships.
  
  
  Regardless of your field of interest, the first stop in looking for a summer job should be the career services department at your school. They probably have a long list of summer internship opportunities. I also suggest connecting with instructors in your field of choice. They probably keep in contact with local companies and may recommend you for one of the internships.
  
  Needless to say, if the internship is a non-paid one, consider negotiating with your instructor for additional credit. Secure a letter of recommendation and treat that opportunity as a "real job" - it will be your stepping stone into future career opportunities.
