Blog Post: Who is Jay Goldberg and why is he blogging?

posted Wednesday, June 4, 2008 10:22 AM

Hi, my name is Jay Goldberg and I will be posting about two blogs a month at Jobing.com so in my first blog I thought I would introduce myself and let you know what I will be covering in my blogs.

I am a former Vice President for Citibank where I was a Service Director. At Citibank, I hired, trained and managed numerous employees. For the last 14 years I have been CEO of DTR Inc., a Business Consulting Firm. At DTR, I developed the strategy, curriculum, lesson plans, competency statements and teacher training procedures for a work readiness training program called the best work readiness certification program in the country by the National Skills Standard Board in 2003. More information about my company can be found at www.dtrconsulting.biz.

In April of this year, my book, How to Get, Keep and Be Well Paid in a Job was published by Outskirts Press. This book was written to be an enjoyable, enlightening, attitude-changing read. In addition to stating the behaviors and skills valued by employers, the book explains why those skills and behaviors are important to employers and uses real-life analogies to help illustrate key points. More information about my book can be found at www.outskirtspress.com/Goldberg.

Based on my background and experience, while a few of my blogs will cover the topic of getting a job, the majority of my blogs will provide insights in what to do keep and grow in your job. The goal of working is to have a career, not jump between a series of jobs, often at the same level just in a different company. Towards that end, you want to decide when to enter the job search arena. It should be when things are going well, you have gained valuable work experience and workplace knowledge, and are ready for the next step in your career. The most difficult time to look for a job is after you are fired (or quit), or when you are unhappy in your job. By the way, if you are productive on the job, a positive force in the workplace, and continually add to your knowledge and skill set base, you become more valuable to your employer and your next job could be a promotion from the company you currently work for.

In addition to writing blogs for job seekers and employees, I will also "throw in" the occasional blog to help small business owners and their key management staff overcome their challenges. Job seekers and employees, if you think these blogs have no impact on you, think again. Successful businesses hire employees and have more money available to pay their employees. Struggling businesses fire employees and do not have funds to give employees pay raises. On my company's web site owners and managers will get a clear understanding of the services I offer them. I also work part time with the Palm Beach County Resource Center (PBCRC), an economic development 501(c)(3) Nonprofit Corporation. At the PBCRC, I was instrumental in developing a revolutionary entrepreneurship training program with a structure unlike any other entrepreneurship training program in the country. More information about the PBCRC's entrepreneurship training program can be found at www.SEEKexcellence.BIZ.

I already have some ideas for my next post.  I hope I peaked your interest so that you'll give it a read.
