Blog Post: Tailor Your Resume & Cover Letter For Each Position You Apply To

posted Monday, September 15, 2008 3:23 PM

As a job seeker you should always be updating your cover letter and resume for the positions you apply for.  When reviewing job postings there are always certain keywords that standout.  Do you update your cover letter and resume to reflect these keywords?  You should always adjust your resume for the position and/or company that you're applying for.

When writing cover letters do you send them to "HR Director" or specify their name?  You should always be specific and apply to an individual.  It's simple enough to do some research and learn the name of the proper person in Human Resources.  You can do some research on the company website or make a phone call.  The receptionists and others that may be answering the call are almost always willing to provide the names of people at their business.

When looking at your resume and the position you're applying for take a look at your objective.  Does it make sense to this individual position?  This is something that should always be reviewed and updated.

Each time you apply for a position its imperative to make simple updates so you are telling a specific story relating to that position.

On the Jobing.com site we make this easy for you.  You can have up to 10 resumes and cover letters saved on your profile.  If you don't have a profile click here to get started today.

I always update and taylor my resume even though I am working at the same place for a long period of time.

I think it is a good idea because I learn new things everyday even though I work for the same company.

Does having a cover letter really make a difference?

This was a great blog and very informative, as always.

Thank you.
