Blog Post: Selling Yourself Without Being a Sales Person
posted Tuesday, June 2, 2009 12:16 AM
When we are out interviewing or networking for a job, we are selling ourselves. We all know this. But how many of us really understand the sales process and sales techniques if we aren't trained "sales people"?
Go to most any sales training seminar or program and you can find tons of people from sales departments of various companies, but you almost never see the comptroller there, or the receptionist, or the IT Manager. So what happens when people in these positions have to sell? They usually do a poor job of it! They have no formal sales training. They probably have little to no sales experience. With so many people out of work right now, and competition fierce for jobs, now more than ever you need to be savvy in how to sell yourself to employers. You need to stand out. Mediocrity isn't going to cut it. And neither are common sales mistakes like not listening enough or not picking up on "buying signals" or not changing tactics when you detect disinterest or not knowing how to properly deflect objections. It's a great idea for all job seekers to learn some sales strategies. Although it may not be practical to go through any heavy duty workshop or anything, it doesn't hurt to learn some essentials. With that in mind, the next South Florida Pink Slip Networking event has a panel of top speakers who will share with you effective and doable sales techniques you can employ immediately in your job search. What makes Pink Slip Networking events different are that no matter whether you connect with one of the many hiring companies who exhibit at each event or not, you will at least leave with some practical information from the speakers. We work hard to provide information that you have not heard before. Today is about breaking the mold, thinking out of the box, differentiation, etc. So these are key themes we try to integrate into our speaking programs. And of course, there's the networking, and with over 100 attendees at each event, who knows who you may meet, what connection you may make or what new thing you may learn that will make a difference and get you that next position. The next event is in Ft. Lauderdale, Wednesday, June 10th, 2009. Visit http://www.PinkSlipNetworking.com/rsvp-sfl.php for more information and to RSVP. Or call 1-877-9-Pink-Slip.
