Profile: Boca Helping Hands

Boca Helping Hands

About Us
In January, 1998, a group of 15 people from local congregations in the Boca Raton area, concerned with the growing needs of hunger and other problems in the community, got together to discuss solutions. As a result, Boca Helping Hands, a non-profit organization which offers help to the underprivileged, was formed.

Boca Helping Hands first opened as a Food Center in November, 1998, serving nutritious hot lunches 3 days a week and giving out bags of groceries to families. An after-school sandwich program started in March, 1999. Currently we serve 5 after-school programs for low-income children during the school year, making and delivering over 60,000 sandwiches annually to approximately 360 children.

The Food Program has expanded to five days a week and includes delivering home cooked meals to homebound disabled and elderly individuals. In 2005, we served nearly 25,000 lunches to an average of about 100 people per day and delivered over 7,000 meals to the homebound.

The Assistance Center was opened in April, 2002, and offers limited financial help in crisis situations. It also assists individuals in finding a job, preparing resumes and mentoring for job interviews through its Job Program.

Our support now comes from
35 Congregations in Boca Raton, the City of Boca Raton, the community of Boca Raton, and surrounding areas and various corporations and schools, along with over 250 dedicated volunteers.
