Jobing Description
Coordinates the Institutional Animal Care and Use Office and the Committee (IACUC)

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
  • Establishes procedural systems to accomplish IACUC office functions that are efficient and non-burdensome to the MPFI research community
  • Provides effective support to MPFI faculty, staff and students involved in the use of animals in research, teaching or testing to assure compliance with applicable federal and institutional regulations and guidelines.
  • Develops and implements policies and procedures to ensure compliance with internal and external regulatory requirements.
  • Prepares institutional PHS Assurance documents and required annual reports.
  • Develops and implements policies and procedures to ensure compliance with internal and external regulatory requirements.
  • Works with ARC staff to prepare the AAALAC program description.
  • Ensures adequate documentation of IACUC activities.
  • Assists the IACUC in the investigation of noncompliance and complaints about the care and use of laboratory animals.
  • Coordinates semiannual evaluations and preparation of subsequent reports to the Institutional Official.
  • Ensures communication between the IACUC and the IO.
  • Interprets and plans responses to new or changing research compliance regulations or standards.
  • Develops new and additional training materials for MPFI research staff on IACUC functions/responsibilities.
  • Serves as a liaison for MPFI with regulatory and accrediting agencies.
  • Actively participates in meetings relative to IACUC and IACUC function.
  • Reviews for completeness IACUC protocols, amendments and investigator responses.
  • Works with IT to develop IACUC web page and maintains IACUC Intranet web site.
  • Writes and submits for review by IACUC Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Set agendas, schedules meetings, writes minutes.
  • Completes other duties as assigned by Research Administration.

  • Skills / Requirements
    Education & Experience:
  • Bachelor in Biological Science or equivalent experience required.
  • 3-7 years of experience in biomedical research and 3 years of experience (minimum) with IACUC or other regulatory oversight groups required.
  • Master's degree or Ph.D. preferred.

    Knowledge & Skills:
  • Knowledge of MS Word and Excel.
  • Working knowledge of web page management.
  • Knowledge of animal protocol regulations.
  • Must possess strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Must be able to prioritize multiple tasks, completing assigned tasks in an organized, timely fashion while meeting all target deadlines.
  • Must be able to establish and maintain strong positive working relationships throughout the organization.
