GENERAL PURPOSE: This position is responsible for the maintenance and operation of the Wireless Maritime Services (WMS) Ericsson GSM network on the ships. Responsibilities in this role include; planning, installing commissioning and the optimization of GSM networks. Identifying and fixing operational problems in both shore side and shipboard equipment. Developing tools to help operators monitor the networks efficiently, coordinating and supervising network installation on ships, coordinating and addressing network problems and training for support personnel. Above all, this position is held responsible for the proper operation of the mobile networks on ships.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
* Network commissioning and optimization for Ericsson GSM.
* Inbuilding Distributed Antenna System RF design
* Monitor the network, analyze statistics and identify and resolve network problems.
* Work on-site for network survey, problem debugging or for testing new features in the network as necessary.
* Train OMC personnel for monitoring and fixing normal network problems.
* Supervise network installation
* Provide TAC support levels 2 and 3
* Attend meetings with Cingular, Customer and MTN personnel.

SECONDARY DUTIESRESPONSIBILITIES:
* Provide written status reports.
* Attend meetings for all related issues.
* Other related responsibilities as may be assigned

NATURE OF WORK CONTACTS:
Reports to WMS Technical Director. Interacts with MTN and Cingular Wireless management and staff. Interacts with external customers, vendors, engineers and technical staff.

TRAINING AND QUALIFICATIONS:
* Bachelor's Degree in Telecommunications, Electronics, Computer Science or related technical field required
* Minimum 5 years experience in the telecommunications field
* Expert knowledge of GSM and CDMA standards; ability to read and interpret specs from both GSM and CDMA.
* SS7/IS41/ISUP
* Experience in installing and commissioning GSM and CDMA networks required
* Experience in In-Building wireless technologies(LGC/DAS) is required
* Experience with Ericsson OSS, MSC, BSC, BTS, OMT
* Experienced with IP/VoIP media gateway technology (Cisco, Memotec...etc) configuration, commissioning and maintenance.
* Demonstrated knowledge of Linux/Unix. Software background programming in C++ and PERL is highly desirable.
