Job: Research Assistant I/II

The Scripps Research Institute is currently seeking a Research Assistant I/II for its Florida facility. The selected candidate will work in a virology (HIV) lab assisting scientists with cloning, expression, protein purification and mammalian tissue culture. Specific duties will include nucleic acid isolation, PCR and RT-PCR amplification, Real time PCR, restriction enzyme digest, bacterial cell culture, protein expression and purification in bacterial cells, protein expression in mammalian cells, screening with SDS-Page and western-blots, production of recombinant and wild type virus, RNA techniques, basic laboratory maintenance, and perform other related duties, tasks and responsibilities as required. The position involves working with radioactive material and in a BSL3 facility.

Requires a Bachelor's degree, preferably in a relevant scientific discipline or an equivalent combination of education, training and/or experience from which comparable knowledge, skill and abilities have been attained. Requires a minimum of one (1) year of related experience, including the molecular biological techniques mentioned. Must be organized, motivated, and have good computer skills using a Mac, and also MS Excel and MS Word. Must be flexible to work nights and weekends when needed for ongoing experiments.

Florida and Palm Beach County residents preferred.
