Jobing Description
Skilled work at the journeyman level in the installation, maintenance and repair of air conditioning equipment, and related apparatus.
Illustrative Examples of Essential Duties:
Performs preventive maintenance and repair of refrigeration, air conditioning, heating and ventilation systems to include, but not limited to pumps, piping, electric motors, electric and pneumatic controls, recovery, recycling and retrofitting of current and new refrigerants.
Performs repairs on water towers and related equipment, ice rink equipment, dehumidifiers, boilers and related piping.
Repairs Liebert type specialty units.
Repairs and replaces bearings on water pumps and open type compressor.
Repairs bearings in electric motors.
Repairs and replaces boards on control circuits.
Repairs and replaces hermetic, semi-hermetic and open-type compressor (1⁄2 HP - 100 hp).
Performs limited repairs on centrifugal systems.
Performs all repairs on water towers (200-500 tons).
Performs all repairs on air handling equipment, including replacement of blower wheels, housing shafts (hollow and solid), bearings.
Repairs and replaces exhaust fans and blowers in sewer stations, bathrooms, and kitchens.
Repairs domestic and light commercial refrigeration equipment and related components.
Performs all repairs and installations on ice machine.
Handles all aspects of A/C and other mechanical repairs on all major City buildings (Police Station, City Hall, Fire Department, Youth Center and other activity buildings).
Remain on a 24 hours-a-day, 365 days a year stand by, particularly on 911 radio sites.
Performs related work as required.

Skills / Requirements
Skills:
Considerable knowledge of the mechanical operation of various kinds of air conditioning equipment.
Knowledge of the practices, methods, materials, test instruments and standard tools commonly utilized in the repair and service of various types of air conditioning, heating, and ventilating equipment.
Knowledge of maintaining and repairing a variety of air conditioning units, electrical motors and pumps.
Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions of the work.
Knowledge of the principles and theory of basic refrigeration and mechanics.
Basic knowledge of electrical circuitry and wiring installation relating to air conditioning equipment.
Ability to detect defects in machinery and to make the necessary repairs or adjustments.
Ability to work from oral or written instructions or from simple diagrams, sketches and blueprints.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relations with other employees and the public.
Minimum Requirements (Must meet all in order to qualify):
Valid Certificate of Competency from Dade or Broward County as a Journeyman Air Conditioning Mechanic.
Driver's license.
Ability to work flexible hours including nights, weekends and holidays. Desired: Two (2) years commercial experience.
