Reports directly to Supervisor for Operations, or in his/her absence, the ranking official on duty.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
* Supervises and directs security functions and activities of Correctional Officers during shift. * Assures that adequate number of employees are available on each shift. * Reviews all disciplinary reports and forwards to the Administrative Officer prior to the end of the shift. * Reviews reports written by Correctional Officers on his/her assigned shift. * Conducts minor disciplinary hearings. * Ensures that unit counts are conducted properly and at appointed times as dictated by policy. * Visually inspects Correctional Officers during shift meeting and at duty post for adherence to dress code and enforces the facility rules/regulations. * Supervises, coordinates, and directs the activities of staff. * Interprets and enforces security rules/regulations and directs subordinates in methods of enforcement of regulations to achieve compliance. * Interprets security rules and directs subordinates in enforcing compliance. * Reviews food quality and quantity at mealtimes during shift. * Ensures that inmate workers under security supervision receive safety training. * Any other duties as assigned by the Facility Administrator or Assistant Facility Administrator. * Directs security staff in methods of dealing with unruly inmates and inmate control. * Investigates and reports causes of inmate disturbances, (i.e., fights, assaults, etc.). * Directs release and transfer of inmates to and from facility. * Reviews work records of subordinates to evaluate efficiency and suitability for assignments. * Responsible for determining job assignments and duties of security staff. * Monitors security staff job performance (i.e., quality, quantity, etc.) and work productivity on a daily basis. * Responsible for investigation and/or review of security staff actions. May recommend formal disciplinary action against staff found in violation of regulations. * Provides informal disciplinary action to security staff when appropriate and necessary. * Directs and assists shift supervisor in job duties and assignment. * Approves requests for time off for correctional staff. * Performs a variety of marginal duties not listed, to be determined, and assigned as needed.
Skills / Requirements
MUST BE FDLE CERTIFIED.
Two years experience as Correctional Officer. One year of college may be substituted for three months experience. * Must have completed an approved training program resulting in a certificate of satisfactory completion. * Must have completed correctional officer academy with satisfactory grades. * Must have passed the state correctional officer certification examination within required time frame. * High School diploma or GED Certificate.
