Position Summary:

Responsible for the delivery of patient care under the supervision of an RN. The LPN will assist the RN with assessment, planning, implementing and evaluating care based on recognized national standards of practice.

Position Expectations and Responsibilities:
Expected to read, analyze and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports and legal documents Expected to have basic mathematical skills. Expected to have knowledge of Microsoft Office. Expected to participate as part of a multi-disciplinary team, under the direction of an RN, (within the LPN scope of practice as defined by The Florida Nurse Practice Act) to provide patient care and to complete all physician orders, administer medications, treatments, tests and other patient needs in a timely manner and communicates effectively with all members of the patient care team. Expected to collect data for the RN to be used in the nursing process to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate safe, effective and age-appropriate patient care. Expected to demonstrate skills through appropriate decision making, delegation and supervision of duties, and assists the preceptor by acting as a resource for new staff, students and PCA staff. Expected to accurately, legibly, concisely, thoroughly and in a timely manner complete all necessary documentation, department logs and reports. Expected to be competent in the appropriate use and functioning of equipment in the area of clinical practice. After an educational assessment is performed by the RN, the LPN will provide appropriate patient and family education based on the patient and family's psychological, emotional and cognitive understanding, and learning needs. Expected to participate in the department/hospital performance improvement program by conducting and monitoring patient care activities, preparing and submitting timely and accurate reports, proposing alternatives when problems are identified, evaluating the plan of care and following through on steps to problem resolution. Expected to demonstrate a commitment to personal, professional and clinical education as demonstrated through continuing education programs, participation in committees, maintaining competencies and review of current professional literature.& Expected to follow standard precautions and appropriate use of personal protective equipment. Expected to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies or members of the business community. Expected to write speeches and articles for publication that conform to prescribed style and format.& Expected to effectively present information to top management, public groups and/or boards.
Minimum Education and/or Experience Required:
Graduate of accredited School of Practical Nursing Licensure/Regulation/Certification: Current Florida License as a Licensed Practical Nurse, BLS certification from the American Heart Association
