Position Summary:
Responsible for answering all incoming, outgoing, and internal calls for patients, hospital personnel and physicians through the internal PBX systems.

Position Expectations & Responsibilities:
Expected to be responsible for the monitoring and initiation of emergency procedures using the standard hospital emergency codes. Expected to be proficient with Microsoft Office, Wescom Communication System, Healthcare-related applications such as Star and CareManager, and the Hospital Intranet Physician Directory and Employee Directory. Expected to have high proficiency with personal computers, printers, and copiers/fax machines. Expected to be proficient in operation of 16 feature Inte-Com PBX Console. Expected to be proficient in operation of power failure phones. Expected to be proficient with overhead paging system. Expected to have the ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence and memos. Expected to have basic mathematical skills. Expected to answer 100% of incoming calls to the main hospital switch room, identifying proper connection. Expected to answer 100% patient bell call requests in a timely manner using the Wescom Communication System. Expected to place long distance phone calls when requested. Expected to initiate overhead paging, utilizing articulate, professional diction. Expected to notify Maintenance and/or Security using the land-based radio if required. Expected to page physicians using alpha paging via intranet and digital paging via phone system. Expected to receive nursing pager assignments via fax and enters same into Wescom Communication System. Expected to maintain accurate shift assignments in a timely manner. Expected to demonstrate understanding and commitment to confidentiality. Expected to be trustworthy with extremely confidential data, it's access and use. Expected to recognize the influence of beliefs and cultures on behaviors and accept strengths and limitations in others. Expected to exhibit adaptability, flexibility, self control and maturity in work and behavior. Expected to exhibit calm responsiveness to emergency or stressful situations. Expected to demonstrate ability to relay calls of a medical nature to the nursing staff and convey messages accurately and promptly to the appropriate personnel. Expected to possess excellent written and verbal communications skills. Expected to have the ability to write simple correspondence. Expected to have the ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the the organization.
Minimum Education and/or Experience:
High school diploma or general education degree (GED) OR One to three months related experience and/or training. Licensure/Regulation/Certification: N/A
*Incumbent may be required to perform emergency duty before, during and/or beyond normal work hours or days in the event of an emergency, crisis situation or disaster (man-made or natural) including evacuation sites.
