Jobing Description
The City of Coconut Creek is currently recruiting for a Part-time Bus Driver and Substitute Bus Drivers. The part-time position has limited benefits while the substitute position does not provide any benefits.

Drives, maintains and fuels diesel buses, vans, and sedans.

Hours of work: Hours vary depending upon schedule. May be required to work holidays during which City services are operational.


Examples of Duties:
Drives, maintains and fuels diesel buses, vans, and sedans. Performs pre-trip and post-trip inspections. Cleans interior and exterior of vehicles including washing, vacuuming, sweeping, mopping, and deodorizing. Inflates tires and adds fluids. Communicates mechanical service needs to management. Completes paperwork as required. Records passengers boarding and departure. Helps passengers as appropriate. Operates buses according to schedule. Assists disabled passengers including, but not limited to, loading and unloading passengers in wheelchairs. Attends bus driver and related training. Promotes positive passenger relations. Conveys passenger feedback to management and other appropriate parties. Distributes and collects on-board passenger surveys. Monitors cleaning supply inventory. Uses radio and/or cellular phones. Communicates route problems and concerns to management. Performs other duties as assigned and/or required including special event transportation. Punctuality, regular attendance and professionalism are essential functions of this position.

Skills / Requirements
Qualifications:
Must be a high school graduate or possess a GED.
  • Must have a valid State of Florida Commercial Driver License (CDL), with passenger endorsement and a good overall driving record.
  • May not have any traffic citations during the previous three years from date of application.
  • Previous community bus program or county bus driving experience preferred.
  • Must have a thorough understanding of traffic laws and defensive driving.
  • Must have excellent customer service skills and interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively and courteously.
  • Must pass a biennial physical examination and is subject to random drug testing.
  • Must become familiar with connecting transportation services.
  • Must abide by City policies and procedures.
  • Must be able to read and abide by the System Safety Program Plan and Security Program Plan established for the City’s bus program.
  • Applicant’s DOT drug and alcohol testing history with previous employers within two years of application may not contain violations or testing refusals.

  • The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 lbs.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee occasionally works in outside weather conditions.
  • The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, and toxic or caustic chemicals.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet while in the office, or moderately loud when in the field.
