This is advanced specialized professional work responsible for conducting, managing and coordinating the internal audit activities for the Auditor General's Office. Work involves the application of advanced accounting and fiscal auditing principles and techniques. An employee in this classification conducts complex audits and manages the continuous city department and private corporation audits. Duties are performed in accordance with general policy guidelines, but wide latitude is given for responsible, independent judgment. Supervision is exercised over professional and clerical subordinates. General supervision is received from the Auditor General or designee who reviews work for compliance with generally accepted government auditing standards and adherence to established policies and procedures.

Some of the duties for this classification include, but are not limited to: conducting or directing complex and comprehensive financial, performance, forensic and operational audits of, but not limited to: City Departments, private companies and outside firms which have a franchise, construction contract, concession, or lease agreement with the City; planning and determining the focus and direction of audits; assisting with establishing the annual audit plan; planning the objectives, approach, scope and work program to accomplish audit objectives; reviewing and preparing audit reports for management regarding findings, and recommendations to correct non-compliance with applicable laws, rules, regulations and good business practice; developing and implementing revised accounting systems and effective internal control procedures; discussing and reviewing recommendations with appropriate management personnel; conferring with accounting and administrative personnel of other departments and agencies regarding municipal auditing procedures; conferring with City administrative and elected officials concerning contracts, fiscal operation, and anticipated revenue from franchises, concessions, and regulated enterprises and performing other related duties as required.
 Minimum Requirements:
Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or Certified Internal Auditor (CIA) license and seven (7) years of professional experience in auditing and four (4) years of supervisory experience in the auditing field is required. Experience utilizing automated spreadsheet database and financial management applications, and Audit Control Language application is desired. Construction audit experience is a plus.

City Residents Preference: In accordance with APM 2-02, applicants for classified positions who are City of Miami residents and new hires will receive preference in selection from interview ranking bands provided that any two (2) of the following documents are submitted with the application and again at the time of interview:
A. Utility bill dated within 60 days of the date of submission
B. Valid Florida Driver License or State-issued I.D.
C. Property Tax Statement dated within 1 year of the date of submission
D. Properly executed valid lease agreement
E. Homestead Exemption dated within 1 year of the date of submission
F. Motor Vehicle Registration dated within 90 days of the date of submission
G. Official school records or transcripts, dated within 90 days of the date of submission
H. W-2 (or 1099) Tax Form dated within 1 year of the date of submission

Selection Preference: Selection preference within the same ranking band resulting from an interview process will be granted in the following order: 1) preference eligible veterans, 2) active City of Miami employees, 3) City of Miami residents, 4) all others.
