Job Summary:
Provides direct patient care, meeting both psychological and physical needs of the patients in accordance with their care plan, regulatory agency and departmental guidelines. Fulfills these duties to contribute to the continuity and quality of care which fosters the best interest and well being of all patients and their families. Provides work direction to Certified Nursing Attendants.
   
Summary of Essential Job Functions:
•Performs special nursing care for assigned residents/ patients per established department guidelines, policies and procedures
•Performs general nursing care to assigned patients/residents
•Handles admission, discharge and transfer of assigned residents/patients
•Assists in the administration of resident/patient care plan
•Documentation is kept according to established standards
•Oversees and assists with meal service
•Oversees the work of CNAs and guide them in their daily activities
•Provide coaching to CNA’s and participate in their annual performance appraisal
•Performs departmental activities in compliance with department, regulatory, and professional standards and guidelines

Minimum Qualifications:
Education:
High School Diploma or equivalent
Graduate of a an accredited school of practical nursing

Experience:
Long term care or acute experience preferred

Licenses/Certifications:
Current licensure by the Florida State Board of Nursing
BLS 
IV Certification preferred

Abilities Required:
•Knowledge of long term care and computer literacy preferred
•Ability to think and act calmly and logically in unusual occurrences
•Demonstrated ability to receive, transcribe and carry out physicians’ orders
•Demonstrates a caring attitude toward MJHS residents, patients, family members, employees and other facility guests

Working Conditions:
Environment Work Conditions:
•Normal working condition with adequate lighting and ventilation
•Exposure to toxic or caustic chemicals; bio-hazardous waste; flammable, explosive gas
•Ability to stand or walk 90% of the day
•Ability to bend and stoop frequently
•Ability to do frequent lifting and turning of patients/residents, singularly and with other staff members and equipment

Infectious Material Exposure:
Routine exposure to blood/body fluids/tissues
