Casual Technical Writer/Special Projects (WPB)

       

As a Casual position, the selected candidate, when available, will be utilized to lead special projects and/or to assist with surge workload requirements.  The special projects may be in a range of areas, but will be characterized by having a well-defined goal and an identified start and end date.  The position may also provide guidance and assist in developing technical and non-technical documentation in support of the AUTEC project. 

Responsibilities:

  • Periodically lead special project efforts that will typically have a well-defined goal and start and end date.
  • Provide documentation guidance.
  • Research, review, and edit documents for consistency, logical flow, organization, grammar/spelling/technical accuracy, and compliance with OSHA/NAVOSH and other government authorities.
  • Develop electronic forms and templates enabling online completion to simplify user updates and allow electronic delivery
  • Create and edit brochures used across the project and/or are provided to external customers for educational or informational purposes
  • Communicate with all levels of manager/work force and customer/navy personnel.
  • May require travel to remote locations
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • High school graduate or equivalent.
  • 6 years related experience working in Technical Writer environment. 
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook) as well as
  • Adobe Acrobat Pro and Adobe Photoshop.
  • Self-Starter, detail oriented, and highly organized
  • Firm understanding of NUWC organization and Navy protocol is preferred
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Valid Driver’s License and passport will be required.
  • This position requires the individual to be eligible to obtain a US Government security 

clearance;  US Citizenship is required.
