  • Position Description

    The Enterprise Database Administrator Manager is responsible for the management of Ryder's SQL, Oracle, DB2, Informix, and Neteeza database environments. They will oversees the delivery of database applications by developing the architecture and structure, programming, troubleshooting and security.

    Requirements

    • Bachelor's degree or equivalent
    • Seven (7) years or more experience in progressive large scale IT Operations, database administration and technical services management
    • Strong leadership and mentoring skills
    • Effectively define and work with processes and metrics
    • Exceptional project planning and management skills
      Ability to:
      • Lead teams and gain consensus
      • Analyze, draw conclusions and create solutions to complex problems. Superb organizational skills
      • Plan and coordinate multiple projects simultaneously and activities through staff

    • Expert in Database systems – Oracle, SQL Server, Netezza, GreenPlum and related areas like HP-UX, AIX, Linux, Client Server, Windows, Hyper-V, SAN and NAS Storage, LAN and WAN networking, Disaster Recovery and Failover solutions, Information Security and monitoring tools
    • Knowledge of database design, file access methods, database standards, database security, data modeling as well as backup and recovery issues pertaining to database platforms (advanced level)

    Responsibilities

    • Oversees and directs the day to day activities of the Database Administrators to ensure efficient, effective and reliable design, planning, administration, implementation, documentation and maintenance of Ryder's databases
      Assigns and prioritizes work and projects to ensure resources are used efficiently and projects are implemented within budgets and as planned
    • Confers and advises staff on several administrative policies and procedures, technical problems and methods
    • Provides support and training in the use of the different database application
    • Responds to more complex, escalated inquiries from the business units
    • Provides administrative tasks like reviewing and approving/rejecting timesheets, reviewing and approving vacations, conducting performance reviews as well as involved in the interviewing and hiring process
    • Develops and implements policies, procedures, standards and controls to secure and maintain the databases, address record retention and optimize performance
    • Develops and implements data collection, analysis and quality control protocols
      Works with the IT and business unit management teams to develop long range requirements for client/server database administration
    • Manages and builds a collaborative relationship with hardware and software vendors to successfully understand vendor strategies, product offerings and find best solutions and services
    • Analyzes current business practices, processes and procedures as well as identifies future business opportunities for leveraging data storage and retrieval systems capabilities
    • Performs other duties as assigned
