Job Description
This position is located at the District’s main headquarters in West Palm Beach with an option to work from satellite offices in Broward or Miami-Dade County.
This position is part of an invasive species management team in the District’s Land Resources Bureau. The incumbent will assist with the planning, coordination, and execution of invasive animal management activities, primarily oversight and contract management of invasive animal removal activities on District lands.
Specific responsibilities will include the following: 1) Assist with coordination of python removal contractor activities; 2) Complete contract requisitions, review contract deliverables and invoices, and conduct contractor compliance inspections; 3) Compile, manage and analyze program data; 4) Help coordinate with agency partners and stakeholders to advance program goals; 5) Draft and edit technical reports and presentations; 6) Assist team members and other collaborators with adaptive management evaluations; 7) Monitoring and removal of invasive reptiles and other exotic wildlife.
The ideal candidate will have strong communication and organizational skills, an ability to independently plan and manage heavy workloads, a temperament for dealing with harsh field conditions, and a willingness and commitment to actively contribute to a collaborative team work effort.  This position requires a strong background in herpetology and wildlife ecology/management.  Documented experience handling wildlife, especially large reptiles, preferred.
Employment Guidelines:  
Typically has a Bachelor’s Degree in Natural Sciences and 2+ years’ experience that demonstrates measurable career progression in the area of applied wildlife ecology and management of invasive animals in natural areas.
Valid State of Florida Driver’s License. 
District airboat certification will be required within 180 days. 
Incumbent continues to implement career development plan to obtain any professional licenses or certifications that may be required or preferred at the higher-level positions.

Physical Requirements/Working Environment: 
Combination of office and field work, with regular exposure to a hot and humid environment in remote and heavy vegetative areas, with exposure to stinging/biting insects, snakes, and alligators.  Occasional evening, night, and weekend field work. May be required to lift up to 40 lbs.
Due to the District’s response role and in the total scope of emergency management, this position may at times, be required to provide support before, during and after major storm events and emergency situations, such as hurricanes or other declared emergencies, depending on assigned emergency response role.
